16 Books that can make a difference in our Evolution
“The book you don’t read won’t help”
Atomic Habits – James Clear
Our habits make us or break us- very accessible and important for us to change out mental models about what we do and how we do it. Also has a great weekly newsletter. PSMRF
Tools for Titans – Tim Ferris
This book is derived from many episodes and interviews of The Tim Ferriss Show, and includes information on a huge variety of topics, including productivity, athletic training, psychedelics, life extension, and more.
Tribe of mentors – Tim Ferris
Tim interviews successful people from all walks of life – some you have heard of – some you haven’t – about what they do to be successful – they are basically short vignettes – and I would read 1 a day – and what you start to see is patterns of habits and actions – that you might not be thinking about – journaling, meditation, diet, decision making (“hell yes or no”) and all kinds of amazing life information – and none of these people – NONE – believe they have it all figured out – they have just figured out what works for them. PSMRF
Discipline is Destiny – Ryan Holiday
I’ve slowly become a big fan of Ryan Holiday and Stoicism – and everyone can benefit from understanding the concept and integrating it into their lives. He also has a good newsletter with Reading lists on a regular basis – and though he and I don’t share exactly the same type of reading – I’ve gotten some very powerful ideas and recommendations from him. (I also wrote him a question regarding something in a book and he wrote me back promptly with an answer.) PMSR
Money – Master the Game – Tony Robbins
Tony is sometimes a cliché – but he is vibrating at an entirely different level and worth following either through books, podcasts or even linked In. In this book he interviews a bunch of very successful people (think billionaires) about how to use what they know for “ordinary” people – I got more out of this and it changed my investment trajectory completely from the information. He released a later book called “Unshakeable” which builds on these ideas and is somewhat “easier” – but I recommend putting in the EFFORT for the original before moving on to the 2nd. MF
Linchpin – Seth Godin
Seth’s daily blog and any book he has written is very worthwhile – BUT – if you are only going to read one – this is it. MR
The Obstacle is the Way – Ryan Holiday
Offers great lessons on how to overcome challenges in every aspect of your life. Ryan, in the tradition of other stoics before him, argues that rather than being stumbling blocks, obstacles are opportunities.
The Algebra of Happiness – Scott Galloway
Super smart guy with an irreverent humor – I read all his books and find his information very valuable – he knows $$ is important – but plenty of other things go along with it – or it isn’t. PMSRF
More than Enough – Dave Ramsey
Dave Ramsey is also dedicated to changing peoples mental models on money – and the important concept of this book is that no matter how much money you make – it is “more than enough”. MF
War on Art – Steven Pressfield
We all face resistance in doing the things we need to do – this very easy read rally’s us to understanding and overcoming it.
Why We Sleep – Matthew Walker
Sleep is a Superpower and it turns out – critically important for our lives. Get this right and a lot of other things fall into place. MFS
Start With Why – Simon Sinek
Depicting the need for both people and organizations to begin asking ‘WHY’, Sinek showcases ways in which employers and employees alike can communally create a healthier and more productive workplace.
There is a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem – Wayne Dyer
When I started traveling on the road 40 years ago I listened to Wayne Dyer tapes and in looking back I attribute my success to learning about mental models and how to change them. I highly recommend everything by him and his PBS specials MSR
Leaders Eat Last – Simon Sinek
We are ALL Leaders in our own lives – and these books help us understand and do a better job at this critical skill. PM
The Psychology of Money: Timeless lessons on wealth, greed, and happiness
Really accessible information about how we are all so different regarding our views of money – and how we can use data to understand
how to succeed in the manner that is “success” for us as unique individuals.
Excellent and inspirational!
