I used to think that drugs (recreational and prescription) were basically the only way to self medicate. Then (looking in the mirror) I realized alcohol qualified. Looking around it becomes obvious that - television, computers, social media, travel, work, sex, phones, food, exercise - almost everything enjoyable can be taken too far and used as an alternative to the hard work of thinking deeply about our lives.
We each choose our drug of preference.
It's when we decide to get off our "Meds" - and make the Effort to substitute a higher standard for ourselves - that we can begin to sober up.
Things change when we change.
